Declan Morrissy – BSc. Physiotherapy
Currently living in Brisbane, Declan moved around a lot during his upbringing. From the small town of Shellharbour on the NSW Coast, up to the remote mining town of Moranbah in Central Queensland, until he graduated from boarding school at St Brendan’s College, Yeppoon before returning to Brisbane after a short working holiday in the South of France for 6 months.
Graduating from the Australian Catholic University (ACU) in 2018, it wasn’t without some personal challenges after undergoing two ACL reconstructive surgeries while playing Brisbane Rugby League. With the support of his mentor and one of Queensland’s most exceptional physiotherapists, Declan’s personal rehab experience only increased his passion for physiotherapy and to help those who may follow in his footsteps.
However, after 4 years of working in private practice, the burnout from working in traditional physiotherapy began to set in. In 2022, Declan explored additional career pathways and passions that could be incorporated into providing a higher standard of care away from the traditional model of physio – ultimately, resulting in professional development and roles in sports physiotherapy/performance and his enlistment in the Australian Defence Force.
With the intentions to accept a role as an Officer in the Army Reserve, Declan found himself joining the infantry for two reasons:
- to better understand the physical and psychological stressors in the ADF to provide an enhanced level of comprehensive care, and
- to shoot guns and blow shit up. The Locker: Has aligned its values with those of the ADF that apply to decision making and actions: Service, Courage, Respect, Integrity and Excellence.

After 6 years in private practice, Declan has gained a wealth of clinical and personal experience working besides multiple teams and athletes such as:
- PNG Hunters HostPlus Cup (Physio)
- Brisbane Tigers HostPlus Cup (Physio)
- Valley’s Diehard RLFC (Head of Performance)
- Wests Mitchelton Panthers RLFC (Head of Performance)
- Shellharbour Sharks RLFC (Physio)
- Australasian Cruiserweight Boxing Champion – Luke Modini (Physio)
- Professional Australian Boxer – Lochlan Duncombe (Physio)
- Queensland Police Service
- Australian Defence Force
